Documenting the American Spirit Post 9/11

Some of the Images on Display in the Museum of Connecticut History

After witnessing the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, from his Stamford office, Robert Carley made it his mission to capture the American spirit by taking photographs of the outpouring of public artworks depicting the American flag. Eighteen years later, he continues to travel photographing house, trucks, and even hot air balloons, all adorned with the Stars and Stripes.

Carley’s photographs have been exhibited across the country, including several solo shows: the Star Spangled Banner Flag House Museum in Baltimore, the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, and the Connecticut State Capitol. His work has been featured on websites including: the BBC, The Hartford Courant and New York Magazine.

Some of his collection is on exhibit at the Museum of Connecticut History.
